Tenuta Sette Ponti’s oldest vineyard: “Vigna dell’Impero” (Vineyard of the Empire)

Tenuta Sette Ponti, Tuscany, Italy

The Tenuta Sette Ponti estate covers an area of 330 hectares in Tuscany of which 50ha are planted to vines.  A story of passion, dedication and a great love of vineyards and their traditions: Tenuta Sette Ponti is named after the Buriano bridge depicted by Leonardo Da Vinci in his painting of the Mona Lisa. This third-generation winery, owned by the Moretti Cuseri family, is dedicated to age-old customs and respect for the land.

“Vigna dell’Impero” (Vineyard of the Empire) is their oldest vineyard which is home to an ancient and unique Sangiovese clone, planted in 1935. Grapes from this vineyard make their renowned wine of the same name.

Guardianship of these heritage Sangiovese vines is at the heart of the Moretti Cuseri’s family legacy whose work has an integral respect for past and future generations. Their eco-sustainability considerations align with a wider movement to revive traditional practices including the use of estate grown willow-shoot osiers to fasten their ancient Vigna dell’Impero vines.
