Villa Bogdano affirms their commitment to protect & promote historic vineyards at an international level.

Villa Bogdano 1880 is a forward-thinking Italian estate steeped in centuries of history. Located in Lison di Portogruaro, near Venice, between the Alps and the Adriatic coast Villa Bogdano is the home of heritage vineyards of great interest. 18 hectares of their 110 hectare estate are defined as historic, among them are 117 vines of Tocai Friulano, that date back to the end of the 19th century. The subject of a meticulous recovery operation these very old vines are still in production today and are a rare example of an ancient training system called “Cassone Padovano”, developed by the Benedictine monks.

Villa Bogdano’s land is rich in natural, historic and architectural culture and lies adjacent to a lowland forest that dates back to the 1200s. The forest is an integral part of the estate, where biodiversity reigns and has been recognised as an EU Site of Community Importance for the protection of endangered species of plants, animals, habitats and designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) under the Natura 2000 network. Embracing a conscious and responsible commitment to protect and preserve this precious ecosystem they have practiced certified organic viticulture and wine production here since 1993.

Domenico Veronese and estate manager, Lucio Tessari, are the proud guardians of this unique, biodiverse land of ancient vineyards where their work contributes to the narration of the history of viticulture focusing not only on the sensitive care of their ancient vines but also on preserving and reviving many native varietals: from Tocai Friulano and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso to Glera and Malvasia.

We’re delighted to welcome Villa Bogdano as a winery member of The Old Vine Conference and we look forward to inspiring others through their story and sharing their knowledge, experience and vision to help us all shape a new category for old vines.

"We are honoured to become part of The Old Vine Conference, to make our contribution to the recovery of heritage vineyards and promote the wines that they produce. We are convinced of the asset that taking care of heritage vineyards is becoming, both in terms of the extraordinary quality of the wines they can produce and the positive impact that their care contributes to protecting biodiversity”, Domenico Veronese, owner of Villa Bogdano 1880.
