Masterclass: Discovering Italy’s Old Vines

Old vines hold the key to some of the world’s most distinctive and resilient wines. In this exclusive Masterclass, Sarah Abbott MW—renowned wine expert and advocate for heritage vineyards—guides us through an extraordinary tasting of rare old-vine Italian wines, celebrating their deep-rooted history, regional character, and age-old traditions.

This tasting is presented in collaboration with IWSC and oldvines.org. The IWSC(International Wine & Spirit Competition) is a leading international wine competition, which awards an annual Old Vine Producer Trophy and supports the Old Vine Conference to champion the preservation of heritage vineyards worldwide. IWSC also collaborates with Vinitaly on their Wine Communicator Trophy, which is awarded each year and recognises a communicator who has been making an exception contribution towards publicising wine to a consumer audience for multiple years.

This session will explore why old vines matter, how their deep-rooted systems influence wine character, and their role in preserving regional identities. Expect rare insights, expert storytelling, and an unforgettable tasting experience with wines that represent Italy’s past, present, and future.
